Knows their kid is facing comments, questions, and marginalized treatment by school, peers or family

Thinks their kid might be uncomfortable with their mixed race identity

Has a mixed race kid who asks a LOT of questions about race and they don't know how to answer

Wants to be proactive in helping their kid understand themselves

Wants to be anti-racist and refuses to be colorblind when it comes to their child

Gets frustrating comments and questions from their own friends and family about their kids and are starting to wonder what kinds of things their kids will be exposed to when they aren't around

Fight fear of saying the wrong thing. Get it right from the start!

advocate or ally?

Both allies and advocates support a cause, an ally tends to play a more supportive, solidarity-based role, whereas an advocate is more active and outspoken in promoting and defending the cause.

advocate

✔️An advocate is someone who actively speaks out, defends, or campaigns for a particular cause, policy, or group.

✔️Advocates are often more vocal and public in their efforts, working to influence opinions, policies, or actions to bring about change.

✔️Advocates may be part of the group they support or may represent the interests of others, using their voice and influence to push for specific outcomes.

ally

✔️An ally is someone who supports and stands with another person or group, often from a position of solidarity.

✔️Allies are usually not part of the group they support but recognize the importance of the group's cause and work to uplift and assist them.

✔️Allies might engage in advocacy, but their primary role is one of partnership, offering support, and amplifying the voices of those they ally with.

faqs

  • Absolutely! If you can’t attend the weekly live coaching calls, each call will be recorded and stored in a portal to watch your convenience.

  • Definitely. You can cancel 24hrs prior to the end of the current period (before the next month renews). The beauty of staying a member is that you'll get more opportunities to ask questions as situations occur!

  • We do want your child to have had some experience living as a mixed-race child—talking, making friends, going to school—and some ability to process what they experience. We also want you as parents to have observed some of your child's experiences as well. It is best if your child is 5 and up, but depending on your child's experiences and needs, you could benefit from this program with a kid as young as 3 or 4.

  • NO! This program is for mixed race children of ANY background! Whether your child has a Black parent, Asian parent, White parent or a parent from any other nationality or racial group, The Mixed Life Academy will help you understand the experience of being a part of more than one group at the same time. While many other online coaching programs may focus on children with a Black parent, The Mixed Life Academy is more inclusive and focuses on the shared experiences that mixed race people of many different backgrounds share.

  • NOPE! This program is for PARENTS of mixed race kids. When it comes to mixed race children, having BOTH parents involved and playing a role in helping them understand themselves in a racial way is of utmost importance. This program is also for ANY parent who has a mixed race child. That means single parents, mixed race parents, same-sex parents, adoptive parents, etc!

  • There will be "hot seat" moments during coaching calls to allow a family to present their specific experiences and questions as it relates to the topic we're covering. And there will be opportunities to ask questions and learn from other parents’ experiences.

  • This is not a program or a training. Learning to affirm your mixed race child and teach them resilience to be confident and secure when they step into the world is a journey. It has twists and turns and will create growth and discovery in you over time, as well as your child. By joining without an end in mind, you can allow yourself to sink into finding the empathy for the world your child is living in and really begin to see what they are set to face from a different perspective. There are definitely books out there to give you an overview of important aspects of raising a mixed race kid, but learning HOW to do it and putting new behaviors and approaches in practice needs your time and investment from your heart.

  • Yes! Although there are very specific needs for transracial adoptees, The Mixed Life Academy will teach you about the mixed race experience and what you can do as their parent to best meet their needs.

  • If your child has not yet graduated high school or left home to attend college or live on their own then it is not too late to benefit from this membership group.
